There’s something special about the sound of laughter, prayer, and the rhythmic hum of tools at work during the Fellowship of Christian Farmers International (FCFI) Walking Stick Work Days. Each year, volunteers of all ages gather to help craft the wooden walking sticks that have become a signature part of FCFI’s ministry—simple tools that carry the message of the Gospel around the world.
These sticks are handed out at fairs, shows, and mission fields as a reminder of faith in Christ, often opening the door to meaningful conversations about the Lord’s love and salvation. But behind every finished walking stick is a story—a story of teamwork, discipleship, and shared purpose.
A Family Legacy of Service
For the Andreas family, Walking Stick Work Days have become more than just volunteer time; they’re a cherished family tradition.
“Over the years, I have seen my parents, Rob and Sue Andreas, work alongside the Fellowship of Christian Farmers,” shared their daughter. “When I heard them talking about Stick Days, I thought this would be a great learning experience for my son John. He likes to work hard and enjoys being challenged.”
That simple decision turned into something far more meaningful than she expected.
John, her son, spent time working with his grandfather, Pastor Rob Andreas, during Stick Days—and later wrote down his reflections on the experience:
“I enjoyed going to Stick Days with my grandfather, Pastor Rob Andreas. I especially enjoyed using the drill press and helping where I could. I also learned a lot about making walking sticks. I also learned about the Lord during the morning devotions. I enjoyed hanging out with all the volunteers as we sat around the table for meals and being with Bill and Kathy Brown. I am glad I had the opportunity to go and hope to go again next year!”
Through John’s words, we catch a glimpse of what makes these gatherings so special. It’s not only about shaping wood—it’s about shaping hearts. Lessons in craftsmanship blend seamlessly with lessons in faith, patience, and fellowship. For John, working alongside his grandfather created memories that will last a lifetime.
Ministry That Reaches Beyond the Workshop
The impact of Walking Stick Work Days stretches far beyond the walls of the shop. The walking sticks crafted by volunteers find their way into the hands of people at agricultural shows, mission events, and community gatherings across the country and around the world.
One exhibitor who attended the Woodsmen Field Days in August recently sent a simple but heartfelt note:
“We sure appreciate FCFI being there.”
Those few words capture what many feel when they encounter the ministry—gratitude for the steady presence of believers who show Christ’s love through service, fellowship, and faith-filled conversations.
Building the Kingdom, One Stick at a Time
From grandparents passing down skills and faith, to children learning the joy of serving, the Walking Stick Work Days reflect the heart of the Fellowship of Christian Farmers: working together to make Christ known. Each volunteer, no matter their role, becomes part of a bigger story—one of obedience, mission, and transformation.
And as John looks forward to returning next year, his enthusiasm reminds us that God continues to raise up new generations of servants—eager to work with their hands, learn with their hearts, and walk boldly in faith.
