Prayer Guide and Devotional – September 3, 2024
John 3:5-8
Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit. Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit
| Jesus knows exactly what it takes for people to gain spiritual salvation and spend eternity in heaven. Most people understand being born of the Spirit. That refers to our spiritual birth into the Lord’s family when we receive Jesus special gift of His death and resurrection into our hearts and lives. But what about this “born of water” thing? Two days ago we looked at Ezekiel 26:25-27. Approximately 600 years before Jesus was born onto this earth, God spoke through His prophet Ezekiel and explained how the Lord would wash away with water from heaven the dirt and impurities in each of us that offend God. That the Lord, at that moment, would get rid of our sin stained heart and replace it with a new heart of flesh. That the Lord would fill us with His Holy Spirit to help guide our hearts and lives to please the Lord and have a oneness with God. This is the “born of water” that Jesus mentions right here. Many people wonder if this would mean water baptism. Have you ever visited a friend or family member in the hospital and prayed with them to receive Jesus into their hearts and lives right there? Then that person dies before leaving the hospital? God will not refuse this person heaven because they were not water baptized. Jesus is speaking of a washing of our soul with water directly from the Lord God Himself. If you have received Lord Jesus into your heart and life, you can answer yes to the question ending Friday September 1’s Prayer Guide! You have been washed by God’s personal water! Lord, thank You so much for washing me clean of my sin and removing my sin stained heart of stone with Your heavenly rain. Thank You so much for giving me a heart of flesh and the guidance of Your Holy Spirit to spend the rest of my time on this earth in a wonderful relationship with You by living life in a way that pleases You!!
