Prayer Guide and Devotional – September 22, 2024

And as He walked by the Sea of Galilee, He saw Simon and Andrew his brother casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen. Then Jesus said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you become fishers of men.” They immediately left their nets and followed Him.

Simon and Andrew were fisherman. This is not the fisherman that most of us are. We take a lazy day along a creek or out on a lake and try our hand at catching whatever we can. Then, we take the fish off the hook, and throw it back in the water. No, these guys were commercial fishermen. They fished for a living. They fished to pay the bills. So, they had to be committed to their job. But when Jesus called out to them, they dropped their nets and came right after Jesus. What a presence Jesus must have presented. To quit your job right on the spot and follow a stranger. They must have felt the Holy Spirit so strong that there was no way possible to refuse Jesus. Have you walked away from a job to serve or follow Jesus? Have you felt the presence and the power of the Spirit of God so strong that you had to follow Him even when the world around you was claiming you were crazy for doing so? Were any of those telling you that you were crazy for doing so …….. Christians?? If you are feeling that Holy Spirit tug on your heart, follow that lead. The Lord will bless you and take care of you. He is looking for the totally devoted. Drop your nets. Get out of your boat. Follow Jesus!!
Lord, I want the strength to drop my nets and follow you when you call me. Lord, please keep my eyes on you and my ears on your call!! Help me to respond to your call and serve you the rest of my life. Lord, make me one with you!!
