Prayer Guide and Devotional – September 17, 2024

Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die

I think it was in a Star Trek movie where one of the Klingon warriors dies. The earth ship’s doctor asks the Klingon leader what he wants done with the body. The Klingon leader states “Do what you want with it. It is an empty shell.” We treat a deceased loved ones body with much respect. We buy them expensive caskets and spend a lot of money on funeral services and burial stones. But, in a way, we are exactly like the deceased Klingon warrior. Our human bodies become empty shells. I remember going to a viewing thinking you can see the emptiness in the person. The spirit of that person is gone. Jesus is reminding us when we physically die, it does not end there for us. If we have received Jesus into our hearts and lives our spirit leaves our body and arrives in heaven where we will live with the Lord for eternity. By believing in and receiving Jesus, we are promised by the Lord, to live forever. If we have rejected Jesus during our time on earth we die and spend an eternity in hell away from God’s light and love. Though the earthly body is now done with, we obtain either our heavenly bodies or the body we get for hell, to spend eternity. But it all begins with receiving Jesus into your heart and life. As the Lord tells us here The one who believes in me will live!! Make sure your name is written in the Lamb’s Book of Life today!!
Lord, when we think about what happens to us when we die, it can be rather scary. To think of possibly spending an eternity away from You and Your love and light in an eternity of darkness and hate and evil. I choose You Lord Jesus! I want to live forever with You! Jesus, I open my heart to You. Come on in!!
