Prayer Guide and Devotional – October 2, 2024

Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,  “Speak to the children of Israel, saying: ‘In the seventh month, on the first day of the month, you shall have a sabbath-rest, a memorial of blowing of trumpets, a holy convocation.  You shall do no customary work on it; and you shall offer an offering made by fire to the Lord.”

Rosh Hashanah, or the Jewish New Year, is also known as Yom Teruah or the Day of Trumpets. The word teruah means “to shout or make noise.” So often on this holiday Jewish people blow the shofar or ram’s horn in Jewish synagogues around the world. This is an appointed Feast of the Lord given to Israel in the Old Testament known today as Rosh Hashanah, or literally “Head of the Year.” It is the beginning of the Jewish civil calendar. The sounding of the shofar on Rosh Hashanah is a call to the people and a sobering reminder that the time is near for the Day of Atonement. This is a Jewish holiday that urges the people to repentance and turning back to God. They encourage people to examine their lives and make amends with others they may have hurt or offended on the year. According to rabbinic tradition, on Rosh Hashanah the destiny of the righteous and the wicked are sealed. The righteous are written into the Book of Life, and the wicked are written into the Book of Death, but most people won’t be written into either book. These are given the ten days until Yom Kippur to exercise repentance and self-examination and then seal their fate. Then, on the Day of Atonement, everyone has his or her name inscribed into one of the two books. A Feast is held with sweets being a big part of the Feast and symbolizing hoping for a “Sweet Year.”
Lord, I pray the Jewish people all over the world will celebrate this holiday and enjoy it. But mostly I pray they take it very seriously in getting their names into the Book of Life. This is an eternal commitment either in heaven with You or an eternity in hell away from Your light, Your love, and Your paradise. I pray the Jewish people get to know You better and that they enjoy the day. But most importantly that they take this very seriously. I ask You to richly bless all the Jewish people today and for the year! And I pray they come to the realization of Lord Jesus Christ as their Messiah. In Jesus name, Amen!!

Prayer Requests!
Pray that all those that hold strongly to the Jewish faith will come to know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior!
