Prayer Guide and Devotional – October 10, 2024

He was oppressed and He was afflicted,

Yet He opened not His mouth;

He was led as a lamb to the slaughter,

And as a sheep before its shearers is silent,

So He opened not His mouth.

When we are accosted or accused of something we have not done, we are quick to raise our voices in self-defense. We can get vocal and we can get upset. Hey, we sometimes do that for things we have done. Here was God, hundreds of years before Lord Jesus came to earth, explaining to us all what was going to happen. Here God explains to us all how Jesus the Christ, the Son of God, totally sinless, without any blemish whatsoever, would be tortured and afflicted for OUR sins, not His. And how Jesus never raised His voice or His fist in anger or self-defense. Jesus could have called legions of angels to fight for His defense to save Him from death on a cross (a criminal’s death at that). But Jesus knew if He did not suffer this horrible death, God’s people could not be cleansed from their sins. We would all be doomed to an eternity away from God and His love. Jesus never opened His mouth in His own defense. He was led like a lamb, the Lamb of God, to slaughter. Have there been times when you have been accused of something and you just had that strong feeling inside to say nothing? That was the Spirit of God in your heart leading you. That was the same power that supported Jesus and gave Him the strength to die on the cross for the sins of the world!
Lord, I can be so quick to speak up and defend myself. I want to do the right thing in Your eyes. Help me to feel the leading of Your Holy Spirit and to respond according to Your desires. There may be something You need me to experience or go through to be a better servant to You. Lord, please be with me and guide me every step of the way!!
