Prayer Guide and Devotional – November 9, 2024

Psalm 119:105

Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.

Light, something this time of the year we know is getting less. The days are shorter as far as how many hours we have of day light. We are used to having light and we do not like living so much time of ours in the darkness. We use lights constantly to light our way in the dark. We have headlights on our vehicles to see the road, lights in our homes to get to other rooms without stumbling over furniture, lights on our streets to help us walk, and lights lighting up our towns and cities all through the night from all sorts of business signs. And it is so hard to get work done outside because of the lack of light. Here the Lord tells us His Word is a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path. That is both a spiritual path and a physical path. God’s Word helps to keep our focus on the Lord and what is right. The Lord’s Word shows us the way through such a dark and dreary world around us. Notice the lantern above. It does not cast it’s light very far, does it. Our natural desires are to always see the entire picture or the entire field ahead of us. We want to see a long way ahead, but the Lord tells us He is enough for that very moment, for the next step, and the path that is before us. We are to take one step at a time with the Lord’s leading so we are sure of our footing. When we stop reading His word our path will become unclear and that is when we stumble and struggle to find the way. We need that lamp of the Lord’s Word every day to brighten the path before us. Satan will litter the path before you to make you stumble and fall and hurt yourself. Are you reading your Bible? Are you allowing the Lord to light your path and guide your steps? Lord, help me to remember that Your word is there to direct my next steps. Help me to take the time every day to read Your word so that the path before me is clear. Thank You for showing me the way as I read Your word. Thank You Lord! In Jesus name, Amen!!
