Prayer Guide and Devotional – November 7, 2024

Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God,

To the saints who are at Ephesus and are faithful in Christ Jesus: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Often the Bible refers to Jesus as Jesus Christ. The word “Christ” is a title and means “Messiah” or “Anointed One” or “Savior.” Jesus is the Messiah because He came to take away the sins of the world through His death and resurrection and save us all from spending an eternity in hell. Occasionally when reading God’s Word notice the Apostle Paul reversing these two words (Jesus Christ vs Christ Jesus). What is he doing? Why is he one moment saying “Jesus Christ” and the next moment he is saying “Christ Jesus?” And in the beginning of the Book of Ephesians Paul is using the two different name combinations in the same sentence! Paul never comes forth and explains why he is doing this. But, it is believed that Paul is honoring Lord Jesus as both God and Man. In “Jesus Christ” it is believed that Paul is speaking about Jesus as the Son of Man that walked the earth and spoke to the masses and performed miracles. The same Jesus that died on the cross and rose from the dead. It is believed when Paul states “Christ Jesus” that he is honoring Jesus as the Son of God. He is referring to Jesus from His divine or Godly being. Here Paul is speaking about the Son of God sitting at the right hand of God in heaven. No other religious figure in history is talked about with two different terms with one referring to their earthly presence and the other referring to their heavenly presence. Know what this means? We have a Big God, we have a Great God!! He is bigger than the universe!!
Lord, I know that You are my God! I know that You are in heaven right now and seated next to God. And I know that You are coming back soon (real soon!). But, I also know You took the form of a human and walked this earth. That You felt the same emotions and feelings we do and that You can relate to us and understand us in our various highs and lows of life. I just thank You for loving me enough to die for me to make me clean before God. Thank You Lord! In Jesus name, Amen!!
