Prayer Guide and Devotional – November 6, 2024

Luke 15:6-7

And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and his neighbors, saying to them, ‘Rejoice with me, because I have found my sheep that was lost!’ I tell you that in the same way, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous people who have no need of repentance.

Jesus has a crowd of people around Him. Part of the crowd is the Pharisees coming to complain to and about Jesus. Jesus tells the parable about a man that has 100 sheep. One of them is lost. The man leaves the 99 sheep to look for the lost one. He finds the lost sheep and rejoices. Jesus is telling the people the Lord is this exact same way about all the people lost in their sins and destined to spend eternity away from God in hell. They are the lost sheep. Or should I say, we are the lost sheep. Just as the shepherd rejoices when the lost sheep is found, the Lord rejoices as each of us comes to Jesus. Jesus tells everyone listening that there is joy in heaven when a single person that was created in God’s image and likeness receives Jesus into their heart. When we truly receive the Lord, our hearts then turn toward repentance. Repentance means “to turn away.” We now turn away from that life of sin that was destroying us and to a life of following and worshiping the Lord! And Jesus does not stop there. You can picture Him staring right at the Pharisees as He states “over ninety-nine righteous people that have no need for repentance.” The Pharisees believed they were better than all other people and that they were righteous. They believed they had no sins to repent of. The Lord loves those that realize they are lost without Jesus and humbly come to God!! Have you started a party in heaven with your repentance? Have you come to Jesus and turned away from sin and to our loving God?? Have you broken the shackles of sin from your arms??Lord, I truly am lost without You. I need You just as much today as I did the days when I was rejecting You. Thank You Lord Jesus for paying for my sins on the cross. Thank You Jesus for paying the debt I could not pay. I owe You so much that I could never begin to pay back. Help me to turn my life around and dedicate my life to serving and worshiping You. Thank You Lord! In Jesus name, Amen!!
