Deuteronomy 4:31

For the Lord your God is a compassionate God; He will not abandon you nor destroy you, nor forget the covenant with your fathers which He swore to them.

Us humans can be very fickle (Quick to change one’s opinion or allegianceinsincere; not loyal or reliable.). We can be quick to change our minds and in an instant those we would normally help we avoid or even go against. But fortunately God is not that way. Here Moses was telling the children of Israel how they have a tendency to go astray from the Lord. That if and when they do this in the Promised Land they will be punished. The Lord sees their insurrection and their going after false idols and will not put up with it. But, they are reminded that the Lord loves them. The Lord has compassion for them. And even though the children of Israel will go astray, the Lord will not destroy them as had been done to many prior to that time. And even though the people would break their covenant with the Lord, the Lord would not break it with people. The Lord made a pact with the fathers of the Hebrews and the Lord would honor that pact. Today, so many people sign a written contract and then they are not happy and break that contract. The Lord’s word is His contract and He is not human so once He swears to an oath, He keeps it!! It was this that kept the Hebrews from being destroyed. And the Lord keeps His promises to all of us today. His promise of eternal life with Him in heaven if we accept what His son did for us on the cross. The Lord’s love and guidance covers the entire world as His hand covers the earth. Isn’t it wonderful that the Lord honors His contracts even if we do not??
Lord, we thank You for Your love and faithfulness to us even though we so often go astray and offend You. Help all Your people to try to be the best people they can be and help us to always keep our oaths that we make with others. And help us to be a blessing to You Lord and honor You every minute of every day by living life according to Your will and Your ways. I love You, Lord!! In Jesus name, Amen!!
