Prayer Guide and Devotional – November 25, 2024
Genesis 9:16-17
Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and all living creatures of every kind on the earth.” So God said to Noah, “This is the sign of the covenant I have established between me and all life on the earth.”
| Of all the amazing things the Lord has created, the rainbow has to be one of the most glorious! The rainbow appears during and after rain storms and will stretch across the sky. The many colors blend perfectly together and are always in the same order. But the rainbow tells such a greater story than just what you see in the sky. At one point the earth was so full of sin and ungodliness that the Lord said it was time to destroy all life on the earth because of man’s death and destruction. So, the Lord brought about a huge flood. The Lord spared the life of one family, Noah and his sons and their families. When the flood was done and the earth was cleansed, the Lord decided He would never flood the entire earth again. So, God placed the rainbow in the sky as a reminder to himself and this world that He would never flood the entirety of the world again. And the amazing thing is that the Lord God is so thorough that He made that covenant not just with man but with all living creatures on the earth. So often us humans will be so involved with our own lives that we totally forget about the animals, birds, and insects. But the Lord never forgets them and included them in this mighty covenant along with man. So, the next time you see a rainbow, remember it is a covenant between God and man (and bird, and animals, and insects, …) Lord, it is an amazing thing to look up in the sky and see a rainbow. Thank You for promising to never destroy this world with a flood again. We can get some mighty rains and flooding but we know Your promise is intact because we can look up and see that rainbow stretching across the sky.
