Prayer Guide and Devotional – November 21, 2024

Psalms 51:4

Against You, You only, I have sinned

And done what is evil in Your sight,

So that You are justified when You speak

And blameless when You judge.

King David was guilty of sin. He knew he could not hide it from God. All our sins are against God. Do not think we offend just another person or two. Each time we sin, besides offending another person, we are also offending God. David knew he did evil in God’s sight and did not even try to deny it. God is perfect, He has never sinned, and He does not tolerate any sin. When David sinned he knew that the Lord was justified when He would scold David. The Lord is blameless when He speaks out against us and our offensive behavior. The Lord is blameless when He judges. He is not swayed by fancy talk or tears. The Lord will judge with righteous judgement. David was loved very much by the Lord. If God does not let King David sin without repercussion, He will not let us either. We cannot feel we are justified with our offensive actions. We cannot feel we are not deserving of punishment. We sin against strangers, against friends, against our family, and even against ourselves (our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit and we can sin against Him with sins against our bodies). Whether we are members of God’s family or not, sin is offensive to the Lord. So, as Christians we are one with the Lord and that behavior is just as offensive if not more. Yes, us Christians will still occasionally show offensive behavior. If so, come to God, apologize, and repent (turn from) our bad behavior and let the Lord know we love Him with all our hearts!!
Lord, I know I occasionally will offend You. I am sorry for those moments. I ask You to help me turn from that behavior and be a good child of Yours. Help me make a positive difference in this world and I realize how I act may show badly on You. Help my actions, my words, and my heart to always be pleasing to You. Thank You Lord! In Jesus name, Amen!!
