Matthew 11:9-10
But what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I say to you, and more than a prophet.
For this is he of whom it is written:
‘Behold, I send My messenger before Your face,
Who will prepare Your way before You.’
Jesus addresses the people about John the Baptist. He confirms what they believed John to be, a prophet sent by God. You are here to see a prophet, and yes you have!! Then Jesus told the people just how great of a prophet was standing before them. Jesus viewed John as being even greater than Isaiah who was considered possibly the greatest prophet born of man (John was more than a prophet). Jesus told how John had the honor from the Lord to prepare the people for the coming of the Christ. It was John out declaring to the world that John himself was nothing in the eyes of God, but there was someone coming right after him that would save the world from their sins. John devoted all that he was to proclaiming the coming Christ. John was more than the usual Old Testament prophet, he was a man highly esteemed by Lord Jesus Himself! He was God’s messenger sent to prepare the way for Jesus. We can all learn from this moment. We are to preach the love and salvation of Jesus Christ and nothing of ourselves. Lord, I thank You for telling me how great of a person John was. How his life was fully devoted to You. He was not out acting like a showman or to make a name for himself. He was out to declare Jesus to be the true Son of God. I learn a lot from Your teachings on John. Help me to have the same mission of John in my age, to declare Jesus is Lord!! In Jesus Name, Amen!!!
