Exodus 22:26-27
If you ever take your neighbor’s garment as a pledge, you shall return it to him before the sun goes down. For that is his only covering, it is his garment for his skin. What will he sleep in? And it will be that when he cries to Me, I will hear, for I am gracious.
The Lord’s protection and love for His people is showing again. The Lord knows the human heart. The Lord knows man will take and not care about other people. The Lord was making sure that people will still have warmth when they sleep, no matter what their financial situation is. The Lord allowed taking someone’s coat or garment as a pledge for a loan. But that coat or garment had to be returned to the borrower each night, so he had a means of staying warm. Sometimes, a person’s coat will act also as their blanket. And the Lord was telling everyone “I am listening for my children’s call!” He tells us when someone cries out to Him that they are cold from lack of a garment, He is listening and will act accordingly. The Lord has created laws or commandments for people to live by. When we break those laws, it is called sin. This sin, this breaking of the Lord’s laws, separates us from God. The Lord is listening for the voices of those that are oppressed by others.
Lord, so often we do not realize that You are looking at every little aspect of our lives. When we have needs, when we hurt, when we cry out for help, You are listening and ready to take action to help. Help everyone to love each other as You love us and helps us to show that love to each other by meeting the need of Your people. We love You Lord!! In Jesus Name, Amen!!
