Prayer Guide and Devotional
Numbers 30:1-2
Moses spoke to the heads of the tribes of the people of Israel, saying, “This is what the Lord has commanded. If a man vows a vow to the Lord, or swears an oath to bind himself by a pledge, he shall not break his word. He shall do according to all that proceeds out of his mouth.
Watching sports today is absolutely crazy. It is very common for a player to get upset that he is not one of the highest paid players in his sport and so he holds out and refuses to play for the team that he signed a contract to play for. Back in the time of the Old Testament, a man’s word was his binding oath. A man’s word was as good or as strong as a signed contract. Moses told the people that was what the Lord commanded. The severity of making an oath and then how you must abide by that oath. All that a person states in his oath, he must abide by that totally. When we sign a contract as a chapter of the Fellowship of Christian Farmers, International that we will accept a booth or tent location at an event, we are saying that is where we will provide our services from. We have had some witnesses want to wander an event’s grounds to share the Gospel message of Lord Jesus. Though it is great that they have the desire to go out and share the Lord, we did not contract for that area. We signed a contract to work from a specific location and we must abide by that contract. What the Lord told the Israelites through Moses all those years ago holds true to all of us today. If you make an oath or sign a contract to provide a service or product and agree to certain terms, you must hold to that agreement. Even the Founding Fathers of the United States realized the importance to drawing up a proper and binding document and everyone signed it!
Lord, You tell us all about the strength of the spoken word. How we should not use words or agree to certain terms lightly and then expect to not have to abide by that oath. Give all Your children the strength to be true to our words and to uphold all Your commands. We are Your children and diplomats on this earth, and we must all show the world Your Word is the absolute truth and must be taken tremendously seriously. In Jesus Name, Amen!!
