1 Timothy 1:13
In the past I spoke against Christ and persecuted him and did all kinds of things to hurt him. But God showed me mercy, because I did not know what I was doing. I did not believe.
We have spoken before about how Paul (when he was Saul, mind you!) persecuted the early Christians. How Paul, as a devout Hebrew and devout Pharisee, would travel the region rounding up those that believed in “The Way” or Christ Jesus, and delivered them to prison. Yes, Paul was a bad dude! Then the Lord appeared to Paul and turned Paul’s life around and he became a major force in Christianity reaching the world. Paul had an amazing ministry. All he saw and all he was part of. He could have gone to those new cities and really built his ministry and himself up. But Paul never did that. He always spoke of his sinful past and how he realized the truth of Lord Jesus Christ. How he was a persecutor of Lord Jesus and His followers. Paul used this to help the people know he was as much a sinner as them, if not more, and yet, Jesus accepted him with open arms. He relayed how he did not know what he was doing before coming to the knowledge of Jesus and so it is okay for them to confess that their lack of knowledge was keeping them from God’s greatest gift, His Son. We all can learn from Paul. There is no need to puff up ourselves with all the Lord has done through us. There is no need to go on about our Christian resume. The key is we were all sinners once, as they may be now, and that Lord Jesus died on the cross for us even as bad as we were in the eyes of God. Don’t preach you to the world, preach Jesus and His death on the cross and His resurrection for their sins!!
Lord, all that I am, all I can be, and all I can accomplish, is not because of me, but because of You. I cannot change a single life. I even struggle with my own at times. It is only You who can turn a person’s life around from being sinful, to accepting You for all You have done for them. Help me to never boast on myself. Help me to always praise You Lord for who and what You are. The God of all creation! Help me to preach only Jesus Christ and His life saving gift on that cross. Thank You Lord! In Jesus Name, Amen!!
