Prayer Guide and Devotional – January 5, 2026

John 13:37

Peter asked, “Lord, why can’t I follow you now?

Jesus was speaking to the Apostles and telling them He was leaving them for a while (His death). He told them they could not follow at the moment but that they could follow Him later. Peter was always a little bullheaded (remember having to be told three times by Jesus “Feed My sheep?”). He was insisting on following Jesus immediately. We can get a little bullheaded like Peter sometimes today. We sometimes lay out our plans on how we are going to serve the Lord. But, the problem is that our plans may not be the Lord’s plans He has for us. Sometimes, like John, we cannot follow Jesus at that very moment. Sometimes the Lord wants us to sit back and relax. Why can’t I follow you right now Lord????? The Lord is setting things up for us and we need to be patient. If we push our own way things will not go well and it may take a long time to get things all straightened out again according to the Lord’s will for us. We are insisting on our way over the Lord’s way because we feel doing things OUR WAY is following Jesus. Continue praying and getting closer to the Lord. He will open any necessary doors for us when the timing is in line with the Lord’s plans. Don’t sit there a little confused like our friend in the picture thinking “Why can’t I follow You Lord – I am changed, napped, and had my snack!” Remember, all in the Lord’s time.
Lord, sometimes I want to push my way. I must not be impatient. I know all things You do work out perfect. Help me to sit back and relax, get closer to You, and wait for You to tell me when and how I can serve You best. Thank You Lord! In Jesus name, Amen!!

Prayer Requests!
Dear Friends, Thank you so much for sharing these powerful and encouraging words from God. This message about strength and peace from the Lord truly blessed my heart (January 4). I am happy to continue receiving these beautiful words of God, and I would love to learn more skills and grow deeper in my faith through your teachings. However, I want to share with you that the main challenge I face is communication. I live in Rwanda, in Mahama camp, and there are many people here who want to follow and learn more about God’s word. Unfortunately, we do not have enough tools like phones to stay online and connect with these important teachings. This makes it very difficult for us to receive regular messages and grow in our knowledge. I kindly ask you to please pray for us here in Mahama camp. Pray that God will provide ways for us to access these teachings and stay connected. Pray for provision of the tools we need so that more people can hear God’s word and be strengthened by His love and peace. Thank you for your prayers and for continuing to share God’s truth with us. May the Lord bless you abundantly.
Above we heard from Jules. Jules and the people of the community in Mahama Camp in Rwanda, Africa do not have the various resources many people in the world have. They want to learn more from the Word of God but they do not have many of today’s electronics and reading material to help them grow stronger spiritually. Pray to the Lord to help all those in the world (especially Jules!) that do not have everyday access to the Word of God that He will provide for them! Thank You Lord Jesus!!!
