Prayer Guide and Devotional – January 20, 2025

Mark 6:7-8

He called the twelve apostles, sent them out two by two, and gave them authority over evil spirits.  He instructed them to take nothing along on the trip except a walking stick. They were not to take any food, a traveling bag, or money in their pockets.

Jesus had finished the first phase of personally training His disciples. They were now preparing to leave the nest for the first time and deliver the good news of Lord Jesus Christ to the world. He even gave them His authority over evil spirits to heal the people. This healing would be a sign supporting the message they were delivering. Jesus told them to take nothing with them on the trip. They were going to be provided all their needs by the people they would share the Gospel with. No money, no food, and even no traveling bag (suitcase, carpetbag, or poke!) They were being trained by Jesus to be fully reliant on God for their needs, Today, we often feel we must provide everything for ourselves. We tend to push the Lord to the side and feel the need to be self sustaining. But, just as the Lord was there way back when Jesus walked the earth to provide for His disciples, Jesus is still there today to provide for our needs. Don’t push Jesus helping hands aside. No need to feel frustration and despair. You are not all on your own. The Lord is there, everyday, to help provide for you. Call out to the Lord, and He will answer! Oh yes. The only thing He instructed them to take was a walking stick. You can get your own Wordless Walking Stick at any FCFI booth or tent! Look at all those Wordless Walking Sticks of all sizes waiting for new owners to take the awesome Salvation Message of Lord Jesus to all the world!!
Lord, thank You for providing my every need when I go and serve for You. You will provide everything that is needed for the journey. Thank you that there is no need to fear when I will eat or where I will sleep, because You provide the most basic of needs. Help me to trust You for every need throughout my days regardless of where I am or what I am doing for the day. Thank You Lord! In Jesus name, Amen!!
