Prayer Guide and Devotional – February 21, 2025
Exodus 20:19
Then they said to Moses, “Speak to us yourself and we will listen; but do not have God speak to us, or we will die!”
| Moses had gone up on Mount Sinai and spoke with the Lord. He was to tell the people of Israel camped at the base of the mountain that the Lord was going to speak to them. Up to this point, the Lord had not really given strong guidance directly to the people. It was always done through Moses. But it was time. The Lord was going to pronounce the “Ten Commandments” or His commands on how the people are to live, directly to the people. But the people feared the Lord and did not want the Lord speaking directly to them. They cried out that they wanted Moses to speak to them, and not the Lord. The people feared the Lord, but they did not respect Him. The people respected Moses, but they did not fear him. The people knew they were sinful. They knew they could not stand before the Lord in that condition and live. Because Moses was just a man like them they felt they could stand at ease before someone like themselves and not feel the weight of their sins. They feared the Lord would strike them down as they stood there. The Lord does want us to fear Him. But this fear does drive us to obey Him. We should love and respect the Lord. He wants to be so much more to us than a Master. He wants us to know He is our loving Father. He is there for us any time of the day or night. He loves us so much, He sent His son to die on the cross to wash us clean of the dirt of our sins that prevent us from standing before the Lord. Do you only fear the Lord? Or do you love Him, too? Lord, I really, really love You! I know You as my Master, my Lord, and my God. I love You with all my heart. Help me to get closer to You each day and help that love I have for You grow stronger. Help me to feel Your love everyday and help me declare Your love to this dark and dying world. Thank You Lord! In Jesus name, Amen!! Prayer Requests!
