James 2:10
For whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet stumble in one point, he is guilty of all.
| I know we have great people as part of this Prayer Guide so as I say this I am sure this has never been you! If you have ever gotten stopped by the police for speeding, when the police officer approaches your window, he will advise you that you were caught speeding and you broke the law. I spent around ten years dispatching the fire, police, and ambulance services for Lycoming County, Pennsylvania and for that entire time the Pennsylvania Crimes Codes book was at my right elbow. All the laws in Pennsylvania. What that police officer is saying is that the law of Pennsylvania is viewed as a whole. And when you break one little area, you have broken the entire. James is saying the exact same thing about the Jewish law. You may think you are stumbling a little bit at one thing and it does not effect the rest of the law, but it is viewed as you have offended the entire code of laws. So, if you think you can get to heaven abiding by the Jewish law, that means obeying every single law! That is absolutely impossible for anyone to do. Take a pencil home from work? CAUGHT, stealing!! Going 38 MPH in a 35 MPH zone? NABBED, speeding!! All out of “Personal Time Off” at work so you tell work you are sick when you are not to get additional time off? BUSTED, lying!! What James is saying is if you are relying on adhering to the Law to get to heaven, it cannot be done. Nobody can fully obey the law. Beside, Jesus came to fulfill the law. We fulfill God’s desires when we accept Jesus into our hearts and lives!! Our focus must be 100% on Jesus and not having to obey the Jewish law to please God and to get to heaven!! Lord, I know I cannot fully obey the law, even though I try. I am human and will trip and stumble occasionally. I know Jesus has fulfilled the law You gave the Hebrews and that is why it is so important that I honor Lord Jesus. It is only by Jesus death and resurrection that I can get to heaven.
