Prayer Guide and Devotional – August 27, 2023
Acts 24:23,27
So he commanded the centurion to keep Paul and to let him have liberty, and told him not to forbid any of his friends to provide for or visit him. But after two years Porcius Festus succeeded Felix; and Felix, wanting to do the Jews a favor, left Paul bound.
Acts thru August
Paul was falsely accused of sedition (overt conduct, such as speech and organization, that tends toward rebellion against the established order). He had to wait in prison until his accusers showed up and made their case against him. After both sides spoke the Governor had Paul returned to his cell. Even in prison, the Lord gave Paul favor. Prisoners usually are placed in the stocks in prison where it is dark and dirty. But the Governor allowed Paul liberty and was allowed to have friends constantly visit him. This was a long and monotonous process for Paul. It was during this time Paul wrote several of his letters. He was stuck in prison for two years. That is a long time to sit and wait while only being guilty of sharing God’s salvation message with the world. Often we can think we have it bad. Bad job, struggling relationship, transportation issues leaving us to stay home when we want to head out and have fun, or financial issues. Paul was in prison for trying to help the people find peace with their Savior. Next time we think we are so bad off, think of Paul spending more than two years in prison!
Lord, I am very thankful for all You do for me and for all Your provision. I can look at times when I felt life was rather difficult. But I have never struggled like Paul did. And through it all Paul was still trying to help the world by sending letters of encouragement to fellow believers in other cities as they tried to grow stronger in their new belief in Lord Jesus. I Praise You Lord God and thank You for Your love and kindness!!
