Prayer Guide and Devotional – August 26, 2023
Acts 24:14-16
But this I confess to you, that according to the Way which they call a sect, so I worship the God of my fathers, believing all things which are written in the Law and in the Prophets. I have hope in God, which they themselves also accept, that there will be a resurrection of the dead, both of the just and the unjust. This being so, I myself always strive to have a conscience without offense toward God and men.
Acts thru August
Paul had been taken prisoner. He has had accusations placed against him. Now it is Paul’s turn to speak. He was accused of being a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes. He was accused of going against the customs and traditions of the Jews. Paul reminds Felix the governor that though part of the Way, he believes just like the Jews should in the Law and the Prophets. He has the same hope in God as the Jews have. He believes in the resurrection as they do. And Paul states that he tries hard to be the best person before both God and man. The big difference is that Paul believes the Prophets fully. The Prophets declare the coming of the Messiah. They told where Jesus would be born, that He would be born of a virgin, that He would be a ruler, and that He, though sinless, would die a criminal’s death. And through all this, that Jesus would remain silent as a sheep going to slaughter. The prophets spoke of all this. Everything they stated pointed to Jesus. Then Jesus came and lived life exactly as the Lord told the people through the Prophets. Even with all that, the Jews refused to open their eyes to the fact the Prophets spoke of Messiah and Jesus fulfilled all. Paul told them they believed in the same exact God. Just that he fully believed the writings. We have that today in our Christian family. Though the Bible is 100% God inspired writing, there are still many that pick and choose what they will believe in God’s Word and what they will not. We cannot allow ourselves to be blinded to the truth of the Bible from front page to last page. We cannot be like the Jews accusing Paul and only believe parts of God’s Word.
Lord, thank You for Your Word. Though I may not understand parts I fully believe that it truly is Your Word and it is the absolute truth. I ask You to help me to understand the areas that I cannot fully comprehend. I Praise You Lord God and thank You for Your love and kindness!!
