Prayer Guide and Devotional – August 25, 2023
Acts 21:18-21
On the following day Paul went in with us to James, and all the elders were present. When he had greeted them, he told in detail those things which God had done among the Gentiles through his ministry. And when they heard it, they glorified the Lord. And they said to him, “You see, brother, how many myriads of Jews there are who have believed, and they are all zealous for the law; but they have been informed about you that you teach all the Jews who are among the Gentiles to forsake Moses, saying that they ought not to circumcise their children nor to walk according to the customs.
Acts thru August
Paul was out on his missionary journey. He made stops in a lot of cities and he preached the Gospel of Lord Jesus at every stop. Sometimes he would stay in a city for months. In Paul’s journeys he saw many Jews and many Gentiles come to Jesus. Remember where Paul came from. He was once a Pharisee and worked to throw Christians into prison. Paul knows Hebrew traditions very well. But Paul also met Jesus on the Road. Jesus taught Paul all he was to share about Jesus. When Paul meets with James and the other Elders he finds the Jewish converts to Jesus mad that Paul was not telling those Jews that came to Jesus to continue in the many traditional Jewish customs. The problem is that though the Messiah has come and replaced the Jewish Law of Moses as the one to follow and the only way to heaven, the Jews are stuck in their traditions. Paul knew the traditions are no longer needed. But the Jews are mad at him. We have something similar today. There are still brothers and sisters within the Christian faith that feel strongly about the Old Testament Law. The Law of Moses was used to get the people to the Messiah. Some people today still feel they are necessary along with Jesus to get to heaven. Paul, a former Pharisee strong in tradition would not teach the Law of Moses because he was taught DIRECTLY from Jesus. The Law was good and had its place before Jesus. Now, we all are to come directly to the foot of the cross and embrace our salvation in Lord Jesus Christ!!
Lord, use me in a mighty way today. Help me to share Jesus death and resurrection with people I meet today. I do not want to learn about You and then store it forever buried away in my own heart. I Praise You Lord God and thank You for Your love and kindness!!
