Prayer Guide and Devotional – August 21, 2023
Acts 17:22-24
Then Paul stood in the midst of the Areopagus and said, “Men of Athens, I perceive that in all things you are very religious; for as I was passing through and considering the objects of your worship, I even found an altar with this inscription:
TO THE UNKNOWN GOD.
Therefore, the One whom you worship without knowing, Him I proclaim to you: God, who made the world and everything in it, since He is Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made with hands.
Acts thru August
Paul took the time to look around the city of Corinth in which he was ministering to see what the people were interested in. In the verse above Paul was at the Areopagus (Hill of Ares, or Mars’ Hill) and noticed an altar. The altar was labeled TO THE UKNOWN GOD. Instead of coming against the people’s other idols, he used the opportunity to explain to the people who this unknown God is (Jesus). He explained that this god that they did not know, did indeed exist and made the whole world and everything in it! It was simply that they did not understand or know who this Awesome God is! Since this God is the Lord of heaven and earth, He does not dwell in this stone altar that they had made with their hands. Paul used this altar of a god they believed in but did not know to show them and explain to them Jesus! May we also, instead of pointing out how wrong something or someone is, which turns people away, act as Paul did and use something in their life to point them to Jesus!
Lord, help me to share Jesus with people I meet today. I want to be able to show them You, as Paul did, in such a way that they will understand and Praise You instead of feeling You are an unknown god. Lord, Your desire is that we all know You. Give me wisdom to reach the people that You have brought my way. I Praise You Lord God and thank You for Your love and wisdom to reach the lost!!
Prayer Requests!!!
Pray for all those involved with the fires and the aftermath over in Hawaii. Pray for the people caught in the middle of the fire, pray for those fighting the fire, pray for the families who have lost loved ones and friends,and pray for the rescue teams responsible for finding those that still need rescued.
