Prayer Guide and Devotional – August 16, 2023
Acts 13:44-47
On the next Sabbath almost the whole city came together to hear the word of God. But when the Jews saw the multitudes, they were filled with envy; and contradicting and blaspheming, they opposed the things spoken by Paul. Then Paul and Barnabas grew bold and said, “It was necessary that the word of God should be spoken to you first; but since you reject it, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, behold, we turn to the Gentiles. For so the Lord has commanded us:‘I have set you as a light to the Gentiles,That you should be for salvation to the ends of the earth.’ ”
Acts thru August
This is a very big moment in the Book of Acts and in the history of Christianity. Jesus was born unto the Jewish community and it was to them that He first taught and performed His miracles. After all, the Jews were the “Chosen people” of the Lord. Here in Pisidia Antioch the Gentiles (non-Jews) were also listening to Lord Jesus salvation message from Paul and Barnabas and loved what they were hearing. The Gentiles persuaded Paul and Barnabas to stay and teach them more the following Sabbath. Oh the Jews did not like that! Jews, even Paul and Barnabas, were to have nothing to do with the Gentiles. The Jews got very envious that the Gentiles were getting the same message and were invited to receive Jesus into their hearts and lives. Then with boldness from the Lord Paul and Barnabas spoke to the Jews telling them since they are rejecting Lord Jesus that Paul and Barnabas were sanctified by the Lord (set aside!) to deliver Lord Jesus salvation message to all the Gentiles and to the ends of the earth. Without this moment, the Gospel of Lord Jesus would have never been delivered to the Gentiles. Without this moment, all the Gentile people that have received Jesus into their hearts for the last approximately 2000 years would have never have done so. Us today would have been destined to die in our sins and spend eternity in hell, without this moment right here!
Lord, thank You so much for not forgetting us Gentiles. Thank You so much for loving us too and allowing us to come to Lord Jesus. Thank You for opening the door for us to spend eternity with You in heaven! I love You, Lord!!
