Prayer Guide and Devotional
John 8:7
So when they continued asking Him, He raised Himself up and said to them, “He who is without sin among you, let him throw a stone at her first.”
It can be very easy at times for people to look at someone else accused of doing wrong and join the choir voicing strong dissent against them. We all must remember that we each had a similar background of offending God. Back at this time, a woman was caught in adultery. The Pharisees were pushing to stone her. Jesus called out to let the person among them that has NEVER sinned in their entire life be the first person to throw a stone at her. Jesus is the only one who knows all of our inner secrets. Yet, He would not cast a stone in judgment against this accused sinner. Jesus came to earth for the sole reason of washing the people clean from the sins they each bear. Jesus could have said “No way!” to helping all of us sinners out. But Jesus came to save the lost, not to condemn them. We have to be careful in our witness for Jesus that we do not throw stones at others. Jesus was without sin and would not throw a stone. We all deserve the wrath of God for our sins. But, the love of the Lord saves us from judgement of eternal death. This scripture reminds us that the Lord did not condemn her. He did not throw stones. He forgave and we are to do the same as our Master.
Lord, I want to be like You. Open my eyes to Your truth and love, Lord Jesus. Help me to forgive as You forgave and not to cast stones at others. Thank You Lord for loving me enough to die on the cross and take my sin. In Jesus name, Amen!!
