Prayer Guide and Devotional – December 23, 2023
Matthew 1:20-21
But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.”
Very often in movies the drama exists because only one side of an event knows the truth or has the complete information. But then that is what makes the movie. If the other side knew the rest of the story the movie would be as short as a commercial break. Knowing information is very important. What Joseph was about to be part of was very important for the world and the Lord wanted Joseph to know that. The Lord did not want Joseph being left out of the information loop and wanted him to know what exactly was going on. The Lord sent an angel to Joseph in a dream and told him not to fear taking Mary as his wife. Mary has been very faithful to Joseph. It is the Lord that placed the child in Mary’s womb. And, as the Lord did when He had the angel Gabriel appear to Mary, the Lord announced to Joseph also, the name of the child was to be Jesus (which means “The Lord saves”.) As Mary tells Joseph the same name was given to her it would be confirmation to both that this entire situation is the Lord’s doing. And both Joseph and Mary were informed that the reason this child is being born in such a special way is because He will save His people from their sins. When the Lord handles something He takes care of all the details!!
Lord, thank You for sharing these details of Your interaction with Joseph and Mary and allowing the world to see how You take care of all the details no matter how large or how small. And I know You do the same thing with my life. Lord, You take care of all my life’s details and everything You handle is perfect. I trust You Lord and I am very thankful You love me so much! Thank You Lord! In Jesus name, Amen!!
