Galatians 2:16
nevertheless, knowing that a person is not justified by works of the Law but through faith in Christ Jesus, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, so that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by works of the Law; since by works of the Law no flesh will be justified.
The Jews had approximately 613 laws and the people were supposed to keep all of them. The Jews were taught if you kept all of them you would go to heaven. Even many Christians today put a lot of credence in the Ten Commandments as their base for getting to heaven. And many people today believe they are going to heaven because they are good. When asked the question if they will go to Heaven when they die, the answer from many is, “Yes, because I am good.” They believe, like many Jews in Jesus time, that following the law will get them to heaven. God tells us in this scripture that we are not justified by the law but we are saved by the blood of Jesus. We are justified because we believe and have received Christ Jesus wonderful gift. We can not be good enough. Paul knew this. He was once a Pharisee and he had tremendous knowledge of the Jewish laws and yet he was now preaching Jesus Christ as the only way to get to heaven. Following every part of the law will not get you to heaven. It is not because of the work we do, but because of the work Jesus has done. Only by believing in Christ Jesus will we be justified and go to heaven. The Ten Commandments are a very good base but they are part of the law and we cannot place the law over the sacrifice that Jesus made for us all on the cross. Have you accepted Jesus into your heart and life? If you have not, do not delay! Accept Jesus today.
Lord, I know I can not make it to heaven by my own work. I must accept and believe in You and put my faith in you alone that you died for me on the cross , so I could go to heaven. Thank You Lord Jesus for dying on the cross and justifying me. I believe and put my full trust in You that You alone are the way to Heaven. Thank you Jesus!!
