Lives Under Construction Ranch: Mission Trip

It was a privilege to be a part of the FCFI work team at the Lives Under Construction Boy’s Ranch this year. Curt and Michelle Christensen travelled from Fort Morgan Colorado, Robert Carpenter from Wayne, Ohio and CP Foster from Westfield, Pa. Long time friends of the ranch, Dean and Martha Baker and Rodney and Martha Janis also helped to make the week a time of service and fellowship.

The men spent most of their time hanging insulation and drywall in the newly constructed body shop. Curt and Bob tackled the ceilings and more exacting areas. It was amazing how accurate they did all the cut-outs! Dean and CP tried their hand at some electrical work but with wires coming out of the air conduit, Marty decided they should stick to the drywall and insulation.

The ladies spent much of their efforts in organizing merchandise for the thrift store with a special “thanks” to Michelle in the preparation of biscuits and gravy for a breakfast surprise for the boys. The boys are usually required to make their own breakfast and were grateful for the several days the team served them breakfast and allowed them some extra sleep.

Most evenings after dinner were spent at Rodney and Martha’s house with Ken and Shelia Ortman, founders of LUC. Ken related some very interesting stories from his experience at the ranch and Shelia always had suggestions for games to play. Popcorn and ice cream were enjoyed by all.

All during our stay we interacted and got to know the staff and young men at the ranch. Please keep the staff in your prayers for the strength and perseverance that they need to serve in this demanding environment and for the young men who desperately need to feel and see God’s love in their lives. We serve an awesome God!
