Dedicated to Missions and Training, FCFI Partner Ron Friesen
Equipping Others for Global Mission
Currently serving with Team Expansion, an international mission-sending agency in Louisville, Kentucky, USA, Ron works with their training team to develop immersive, interactive training experiences that challenge and prepare participants for cross-cultural ministry. In addition, he serves on short-term disaster relief WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) assignments with Samaritan’s Purse DART response.
Introducing the Global Village Project
As part of Team Expansion’s international training program, Ron is helping lead the development of a Global Village — a hands-on environment where missionaries can experience and live-in traditional housing while also learning about appropriate technology innovations that improve those dwellings. Examples include improving African huts with sustainable upgrades.
In addition, the Global Village will feature an agricultural demonstration plot with fruit trees, vegetables, and agroforestry practices. Volunteers will be needed to help build both the traditional housing demonstrations and the agricultural plots that will serve as training tools for future missionaries.
Decades of International Development & Public Health Experience
- Over 20 years of professional work in international community development and relief.
- 12 years as Resident Country Director for the International Development and Relief Board in Morocco—leading training, deployment, and oversight of more than 40 international Christian staff units across 4 regional offices, alongside hundreds of short-term volunteers.
- Nearly 3 years in South India with the Asian Rural Life Development Foundation, a regional nonprofit organization.
- Service with health departments in Los Angeles, California, and Louisville, Kentucky, strengthening his expertise in public health.
Impactful Projects & Humanitarian Service
Ron has led numerous relief and development projects across North Africa, Central and South Asia, and beyond. His leadership has overseen:
- Disaster response for floods, heavy snowfall, and earthquakes.
- Long-term WASH projects such as spring development, well drilling, low-cost filtration systems, latrine construction for schools, and emergency water chlorination through salt electrolysis.
- Livelihood initiatives including loans, small-scale renewable energy, smokeless stoves, and school and playground construction.
- Health education and sanitation programs for vulnerable populations in crisis situations.
A Legacy of Faith & Service
Born into a missionary family, Ron grew up in Afghanistan in the 1970s, where his father served as an eye surgeon and evangelist. As a teenager in Pakistan, he joined his family in medical eye camps in remote mountain regions, assisting in clinics and surgeries while also helping Afghan refugees through relief and livelihood projects.
That legacy of combining faith and action continues to shape his life and work. Together with his wife, Ron raised their daughters in France, North Africa, and India, instilling the same commitment to Christ-centered service.
Living Out the Gospel in Every Calling
For Ron, salvation through Christ is the foundation of transformation—both personal and communal. His broad U.S. and international experience in public health, disaster relief, training, and development uniquely equips him to train and inspire others for global mission service. Through his work, he continues to embody the truth that professional skills and innovation find their fullest purpose when lived out in obedience to Christ.
