Even after the devastating hurricane that struck Jamaica last year, God continues to sustain the ministry of Pastor Dorant Brown and his church. While significant repairs are still needed, the congregation remains steadfast in worship and committed to serving their community.
Although the church’s sanctuary sustained damage, it remains standing and is once again being used for worship services. Without a public address system, the congregation gathers and worships together, trusting God to provide what is needed. A generous brother in Christ installed a temporary roof to help protect the sanctuary from the rain. While water still enters during heavy showers, the building remains usable and has become a blessing to the wider community.
Because many surrounding churches suffered greater damage, the sanctuary has opened its doors to serve others. Congregations from the Seventh-day Adventist Church, the Moravian Church, and the New Testament Church of God have been able to hold funeral services there, providing comfort to grieving families during difficult times.
The ministry continues to meet the physical and spiritual needs of the community despite ongoing challenges. The educational wing—which houses the kitchen, bathrooms, children’s classrooms, Pastor Brown’s study, and the area where care packages are distributed—still has only a temporary tarpaulin covering. Recent inspections have also revealed that the plywood on that section of the roof may need to be completely replaced with a more durable material, adding another significant expense to the rebuilding effort.
As summer ministry opportunities approach, the church is also seeking support for Vacation Bible School (VBS), continued building repairs, and volunteers with construction skills.
