Johnathan Yazzie and Jeff Goss
The Fellowship of Christian Farmers recently wrapped up its annual Navajo Nation Outreach in Shiprock, New Mexico—an event that continues to be one of the ministry’s most meaningful opportunities to share the Gospel, pray for families, and connect with the Navajo community. Each year, the team sets up prayer and evangelism booths, partnering with local believers who bring cultural insight, compassion, and spiritual leadership.
This year, one of the Navajo ministers serving at the prayer booth was Johnathan Yazzie. As he ministered alongside the Fellowship of Christian Farmers team, he witnessed several powerful moments—but one testimony, in particular, stayed with him.
Johnathan shared that a young man approached the prayer booth with his grandmother. The young man struggled with a strong stutter and spoke with noticeable difficulty. As they stepped forward for prayer, Johnathan felt led to minister to him using the story of Moses—reminding the young man that God often chooses those who feel unqualified, and that even Moses wrestled with a speech struggle.
Moved by the Holy Spirit, Johnathan began speaking Scripture over the young man, proclaiming God’s identity and purpose for his life. The prayer grew in intensity as the presence of God surrounded the trio.
Then something remarkable happened.
By the time the prayer ended, the young man began to speak with a clarity and eloquence that stunned everyone present. Johnathan recalls sitting back in awe, watching the young man form words smoothly—nothing like how he spoke only minutes earlier.
His grandmother was overcome with tears, witnessing what felt like a breakthrough right before her eyes. The young man thanked Johnathan with a confidence that had not been there before, and as he and his grandmother walked away, Johnathan could hear him speaking freely.
“It was like watching God open a door in his life,” Johnathan shared. “I could already see the path ahead of him—and all the people he might one day reach. Who knows? Maybe he’ll be the next Navajo Billy Graham.”
Moments like this are why the Fellowship of Christian Farmers continues to return to Shiprock year after year. God is moving among the Navajo people, and through faithful servants like Johnathan Yazzie, lives are being touched, encouraged, and transformed by the power of prayer.
