1.) Then they returned to Jerusalem from the hill called the Mount of Olives, a Sabbath day’s walk from the city, (Acts 1:12). A Sabbath day’s walk was determined by the Pharisees, about ¾ of a mile. The Pharisees had taken God’s rules and added to them to make themselves more important and to keep the common people under their control. We pray for insight from God’s Word, not man’s word.
– Old Home Day, Vernon Center, NY – Bill Brown
2.) Do not repay anyone evil for evil, (Romans 12:17). This and the verses following summarize the core of Christian living. As we remember how much we have been forgiven, we should want to pay that forward. We pray to be a living example of God’s love.
– Rock the Lake, Lakeview, OH – Bill Nichols
3.) But we preach Christ crucified; a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, (1 Corinthians 1:23). The Good News of Jesus Christ still sounds foolish to many. The world promotes power, wealth, and wisdom. Jesus is all that and more. We pray to remember no amount of money can save us and no power is greater than the Creator of power, nor is there any greater wisdom than knowing Christ as our Savior and Lord.
– Please pray for continued healing for Ada’s wrist that was hurt when she fell.
4.) But this happened that we might not rely on ourselves but on God who raises the dead, (2 Corinthians 1:9). Many hardships happened to Paul and the early missionaries, most are recorded in Acts. More than once they feared for their lives. They realized they could do nothing to help themselves; they simply had to rely on God. We pray to keep uppermost in our thoughts that we are in charge of nothing. We pray to turn everything over to our Creator God.
– 4–6 Crops and Cattle Conference, Kansas City, KS – Sarah Labriel & David Breeden
5.) For God, who was at work in the ministry of Peter as an apostle to the Jews, was also at work in my ministry as an apostle to the Gentiles, (Galatians 2:8). Paul and Peter had different ministries and worked in different directions but had the same Lord! We pray for all ministries that promote Jesus Christ as God’s Son and Him alone as Savior.
– 4–8 Addison County Fair, Vergennes, VT – Flemings
6.) So that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith, (Ephesians 3:17). God’s love is total. We pray for family and friends who do not know Jesus as Lord and Savior, that they would come to a saving knowledge of Him.
– 5–8 NY State Steam Show, Canandaigua, NY – Bill Brown
7.) Now I want you to know, brothers, that what has happened to me has really served to advance the Gospel, (Philippians 1:12). Paul saw being in prison as one more opportunity to spread the Gospel. Many people today see hardships as an excuse to give up. We pray for a spirit of determination to demonstrate Christ as we face difficulties.
– 6–8 Corn Festival, Eden, NY – Bill Brown
8.) I have become its (the Gospel) servant by the commission God gave me to present to you the Word of God in its fullness, (Colossians 1:25). God calls us to share the Good News of Jesus. We will be misunderstood, accused of false doctrine, and persecuted. That doesn’t change our calling. We pray to be faithful in spreading the Gospel and thankful for every opportunity.
– Please pray for David and Gladys’ son, Matthew. He is having vision problems and is undergoing tests so a treatment plan can follow.
9.) We loved you so much that we were delighted to share with you not only the Gospel of God but our lives as well, (1 Thessalonians 2:8). Paul not only worked as a tentmaker so he wouldn’t burden the new believers financially, but he also loved them enough to share his life with them. We pray to understand that we do not do life alone. We pray for the right opportunities to share our life experiences to encourage and teach others.
– Please pray for David as he continues to heal from cataract surgery.
10.) They perish because they refused to love the truth and so be saved, (2 Thessalonians 2:10). People are given opportunities to accept God’s saving grace through His Son, Jesus. We choose to accept or reject Him. We pray for salvation for all who will receive Him. We also pray for the ministry of the walking sticks. May lives be touched, changed, and saved in Jesus’ name.
– Please pray for Herb Hiat’s family as he, an FCFI mission worker, went home to be with Jesus at the age of 95.
11.) These promote controversies rather than God’s work…which is by faith, (1 Timothy 1:4). Some like to stir up pointless theological arguments. Paul said to stay away from such things. We pray for discernment so that we won’t get sidetracked from the true message of the Gospel—Jesus Christ.
– Please pray for divine intervention in our country. Pray for the Holy Spirit to sweep through our land, bringing revival to believers and salvation to unbelievers.
12.) Everyone who confesses the name of the Lord must turn away from wickedness, (2 Timothy 2:19). Paul urges Timothy to be the kind of person Christ could use for His noblest purposes. We pray not to settle for less than God’s highest and best and to allow Him to use us as instruments of His will.
– Please pray that Dennis and Karen’s family mission trip to Guatemala brought many blessings to both the family and the people they ministered to.
13.) You must teach what is in accord with sound doctrine, (Titus 2:1). Believers must be grounded in the truths of the Bible. Then, we won’t be swayed by the next newest doctrine. We pray to read the Bible through year after year so we will know what we are talking about.
– Please join Allison in prayer for the drought conditions and wildfires. We pray that the rains have come and the farmers and ranchers are now able to continue their work and save their livestock.
14.) I am sending him, who is my very heart, back to you, (Philemon 12). Paul was sending Onesimus, a runaway slave, back to his owner. He asked that the owner accept him back as a brother. We pray to be open to forgiveness of those who have hurt us.
– Please pray for Diana’s niece, Patti, who is recovering from a stroke.
15.) But in these last days, He has spoken to us by His Son, (Hebrews 1:2). Jesus is the fulfillment of God’s revelation through the centuries. When we know Him as Savior and Lord, we have all we need to be saved from our sin and be in relationship with God. We pray for ourselves as we come to know Christ as our personal Savior and for others as God works in their lives, for salvation.
– Roseboom Antique Show, Roseboom, NY – Bill Brown
16.) If you keep the royal law found in Scripture, “Love your neighbor as yourself,” you are doing right, (James 2:8). We must treat all people as we want to be treated. Don’t ignore those who are wealthier or less wealthy. Either way, we are withholding love from those who need it. We pray to share God’s love through His Son with all people.
– Please give a shout of hallelujah for all those who volunteered with Bill Brown to make Walking Stick Days a great success.
17.) For you are receiving the goal of your faith, the salvation of your souls, (1 Peter 1:9). Faith is believing in something we haven’t experienced yet and have not seen yet. As we believe in our hearts that Jesus is God’s Son, even though we haven’t seen Him personally, and confess Him with our mouths, we receive salvation. Our faith in Jesus has brought us to our goal—salvation. We pray for family and friends who need to step out in faith and claim Jesus as their Savior.
– Please pray for a successful mission trip to Spruce Mountain, NC, in September. Contact Bill Brown if you wish to volunteer.
18.) But there were false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you, (2 Peter 2:1). There have been false teachers from the beginning. There are even more today. We don’t have to be on the internet long to realize this world has many strange and diverse thinking people, especially when it comes to politics and religion. We pray to remember we know the Way, the Truth, and the Life!
– 18–20 Dakota Fest, Mitchell, SD – Jeff Goss
19.) He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, (1 John 2:2). Jesus is the atoning sacrifice for our sin. He satisfies both God’s requirement—death for our sin—and removes our sin. In Him, we are forgiven and purified. We pray to continually confess and turn from our wicked ways as we ask Christ to be our Savior and Lord.
– 19–23 Kenosha County Fair, Wilmot, WI – Scott Fisher
20.) I am not writing a new command, (2 John 5). The command to love one another first appeared in Leviticus. We can show our love in many ways: avoiding prejudice, listening, helping, giving, and serving. We pray to put God’s command to love one another into practice as we go about our daily lives.
– 20–23 Connecticut Valley Fair, Bradford, VT – Flemings
– 20–23 Tri-State Antique Tractor Show, Portland, IN – Bill Nichols
21.) I have no greater joy than to hear my children are walking in the truth, (3 John 4). John was the spiritual father of many. He was glad to hear that those believers were staying the straight course and believing what they had been taught. We pray to become spiritual mentors of many and to use our time to reach and teach.
– 21–23 Woodsmen’s Field Days, Boonville, NY – Bill Brown
22.) Yet these men speak abusively against whatever they do not understand, (Jude 10). False teachers claimed they possessed secret knowledge that gave them authority. The nature of God is beyond our understanding, but God, in His grace, has chosen to reveal Himself to us in His Word and through Jesus. We pray to seek our knowledge of God from His Word. We praise Him for giving us guidelines to direct our lives.
– Farmer’s Market, Syracuse, NY – Bill Brown
– 21–22 Mississippi FFA State Convention – Art Free
23.) This calls for patient endurance and faithfulness on the part of the saints, (Revelation 14:12). The tough times we face right now are also opportunities for spiritual growth. We pray for endurance and faithfulness during these trying times. We pray to be the light…to walk the walk.
– 22–25 Brooklyn Fair, Brooklyn, CT – Bill Brown
24.) My master has withheld nothing from me except you, because you are his wife, (Genesis 39:9). Sexual sin is not just between two consenting adults. It is an act of disobedience against God. We pray to keep our bodies free and clear of sexual sin.
– Please pray for Pastor Samson Milombe of Zambia. He and 50 other pastors from that area are on mission to help women and children. If anyone would like to be personally involved, please let me know and I will send email information.
25.) Moses answered, “What if they do not believe me or listen to me,” (Exodus 4:1). Moses was like us and looked for a way out of a difficult ministry. We pray to be open to God’s direction in our lives.
– Please pray for Earl. He has been having fainting spells and is undergoing testing. Please pray for healing.
26.) Judge your neighbor fairly, (Leviticus 19:15). Do not show partiality by overlooking the wrongs of the rich or looking down on the poor. We pray to look at others through God’s eyes and see that everyone has their own hurts.
– 25–27 NY State Trappers Association Convention, Herkimer, NY – Bill Brown
27.) But it was your own eyes that saw all these great things the Lord has done, (Deuteronomy 11:7). Israel witnessed all the mighty works and miracles of God, yet it was still hard for them to believe. We have our own miracles that we have seen God perform, and we also have His written Word. We pray to read and study our Bibles so we will be prepared.
– Please pray for volunteers for the Danville Arts and Crafts Show on September 12. Please volunteer if you are able.
28.) You can drive them out, (Joshua 17:18). God’s command was for the Israelites to conquer the land of Canaan. They were to drive out or destroy the inhabitants as they took possession of the land. The tribes of Joseph were afraid of the people in their inheritance, but Joshua encouraged them. We pray for courage to grab hold of our calling from God.
– 28–30 Edgar Steam Show – Scott Fisher
29.) So Delilah took new ropes and tied him with them, (Judges 16:12). Samson was deceived because he could not overcome his burning lust and recognize Delilah for who she really was. We pray for eyes to see and ears to hear what God would have us recognize in others so we won’t be deceived.
– Please pray for good, godly Christian people to step up and run for office. Please support those who do.
30.) Now then, stand still and see this great thing the Lord is about to do before your eyes, (1 Samuel 12:16). The dry season during the months of May and June seldom brought rain, so a thunderstorm was a miracle. We pray to experience God’s miracles in our lives every day and not simply explain them away.
– Please continue to pray that Niftaly Abdalla’s mother is able to have her eye surgery. Please pray that the necessary funds will be available for this surgery.
31.) The king (David) was deeply moved and went up to the upper chamber of the gate and wept. As he wept, he said, “O my son Absalom, my son, my son Absalom! If only I could have died in your place, Absalom, my son, my son!” (2 Samuel 18:33). David’s son, Absalom, turned against him and was eventually killed in battle. David loved him deeply and cried out in grief. The men who had fought against Absalom’s army felt humiliated because they had grieved David. We pray to keep an open heart and a clear mind even in times of grief, and to keep our eyes on the things of God.
– Please pray for the salvation of many, for many are lost.
