“Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God? Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.” — John 6:28–29
When Jesus was asked what it means to do the works of God, His answer was simple yet profound: believe. Our part is to believe the promises of God and put action to our believing.
One of the promises I often stand on is found in Isaiah 45:3:
“And I will give thee the treasures of darkness, and hidden riches of secret places.”
This verse reminds me that there are people—souls—living in deep spiritual darkness, who, when reached with the gospel, become great treasures in the Kingdom of God. My prayer is that God will use me to find and reach these treasures.
A powerful example of this is Nicky Cruz, once a notorious gang leader in New York City. In the 1950s, through the ministry of David Wilkerson, Nicky encountered the transforming power of Jesus Christ. From the slums of New York, he was lifted out of darkness and became an evangelist who led thousands to Christ worldwide. Truly, he became one of God’s “treasures of darkness.”
Another promise I hold dear is Psalm 37:23:
“The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord.”
This verse gives purpose to the ordinary moments of life—trips to the grocery store, gas station, or anywhere our daily routines take us. These seemingly mundane tasks can become divine appointments. God orders our steps so that we cross paths with people who need to hear about Jesus. When we believe this promise, every moment becomes an opportunity for ministry.
A beautiful example of this is found in Acts 8, where Philip the evangelist was led by the Holy Spirit to meet an Ethiopian eunuch traveling in a chariot. The man was reading Scripture but didn’t understand it. Philip obeyed the Spirit’s leading, joined the chariot, and shared the good news of Jesus. The eunuch believed and was baptized—and history tells us he brought Christianity to Ethiopia, where a strong Christian presence remains to this day.
That was a treasure found in darkness—brought into the light through obedience and faith.
When we allow God to lead our steps and open our mouths to share Jesus, good things happen. Souls are saved, lives are changed, and the Kingdom of God grows. Let’s believe His promises, walk in faith, and expect divine appointments every day—because treasures are waiting to be found in the most unexpected places.
