Steve Cernek, President of the Fellowship of Christian Farmers International (FCFI) Board, recently returned from a mission trip to Romania, bringing with him an inspiring update on the ongoing ministry work in the region.
Supporting Ukrainian Refugees
The camp ministry facilities in Romania continue to provide shelter and support for Ukrainian refugee families displaced by the war. While some families remain at the camp, others have made the difficult decision to return to Ukraine. Recently, a few families took a circuitous route through northern Russia to reach their hometowns, now less affected by immediate bombings.
“Their decision to return home, despite the risks, might not make sense to us, but it reflects the realities of life during wartime,” Steve remarked. Although the war may no longer dominate headlines in the U.S., it remains a critical, all-consuming issue for Ukrainians and their neighboring countries.
A Special Connection in Transylvania
During his visit, Steve met with a group of Ukrainian refugees forming a church community in the Transylvania area. Among them was Alexandrea, an 11-year-old girl whose spirit reminded him of one of his own granddaughters. Alexandrea shared her dream of learning to play the piano, a wish Steve helped fulfill by providing her with a keyboard and funding several months of lessons.
“This small gesture was made possible through the generosity and prayers of supporters. I hope she will grow in her gift and use it to bless others, just as my granddaughter does,” Steve shared. He asks for continued prayers for Alexandrea and her family.
Building for the Future
In addition to connecting with refugee families and local churches, the mission team contributed to the construction of a chapel at the camp. These improvements are vital as the camp prepares to host summer youth programs designed to share the life-changing message of Jesus Christ.
“The camp ministry is transforming the hearts and lives of young people, offering them hope and the knowledge of salvation through Christ,” Steve noted.
Call to Prayer and Support
Steve’s trip underscores the ongoing need for prayer and support for those affected by the war and the ministry work in Romania. Whether through housing refugees, providing meaningful gifts like Alexandrea’s keyboard, or building facilities for ministry outreach, every contribution helps to share God’s love and hope during challenging times.
Please continue to pray for the refugee families, the local ministry teams, and the young lives being touched through the camp programs.
