A few years ago, I’d say about 30 to be exact, there was a little white church out in the middle of nowhere in the country that was in trouble.

Simon and Andrew were fisherman. This is not the fisherman that most of us are. We take a lazy day along a creek or out on a lake and try our hand at catching whatever we can. Then, we take the fish off the hook, and throw it back in the water. No, these guys were commercial fishermen. They fished for a living. They fished to pay the bills. So, they had to be committed to their job. But when Jesus called out to them, they dropped their nets and came right after Jesus. What a presence Jesus must have presented. To quit your job right on the spot and follow a stranger. They must have felt the Holy Spirit so strong that there was no way possible to refuse Jesus. Have you walked away from a job to serve or follow Jesus? Have you felt the presence and the power of the Spirit of God so strong that you had to follow Him even when the world around you was claiming you were crazy for doing so? Were any of those telling you that you were crazy for doing so …….. Christians?? If you are feeling that Holy Spirit tug on your heart, follow that lead. The Lord will bless you and take care of you. He is looking for the totally devoted. Drop your nets. Get out of your boat. Follow Jesus!!

Prayer Guide and Devotional
When we think about being wise, we do not think about deeds. We think our wisdom would show through our high social standing, by our important job, by our elegant home, by a book we wrote, or even our standing in church.

I think it was in a Star Trek movie where one of the Klingon warriors dies. The earth ship’s doctor asks the Klingon leader what he wants done with the body.

Rosh Hashanah, or the Jewish New Year, is also known as Yom Teruah or the Day of Trumpets. The word teruah means “to shout or make noise.”

There is no mystery in day-to-day life quite as exhilarating as the ordinary mailbox. Every day the possibility of something new arrives when the mailman stops at the end of the driveway and drops off the mail.
