Agriculture: More Than Farming—A Calling in God’s Kingdom

Throughout Scripture, agriculture is far more than a means of producing food. It is woven into God’s redemptive story from the Garden of Eden to the New Jerusalem. Farming is not simply an occupation—it is a calling through which God’s people can demonstrate faithful stewardship, serve others, and advance His Kingdom.

Many Christian ministries have traditionally separated evangelism from practical work such as agriculture. Yet the Bible presents a much broader picture. God cares about the whole person—spiritually, physically, socially, and economically. As followers of Christ, we are called to reflect His love not only through proclaiming the Gospel but also by cultivating the land, caring for creation, and helping communities flourish.

Genesis reminds us that God Himself planted the first garden before placing Adam in it. This powerful image reveals that agriculture has always been part of God’s design. Humanity was created in God’s image and entrusted with the responsibility to steward His creation, cultivate the land, and care for it wisely. Farming, therefore, is not a lesser calling but an important expression of faithful service to the Creator.

When Christian farmers embrace a biblical worldview, agriculture becomes an opportunity to glorify God. Stewardship replaces exploitation, innovation is guided by biblical principles, and communities are strengthened through both practical care and spiritual transformation. As lives are transformed by Christ, families, farms, and entire communities can also experience lasting change.
