
- Then Naomi said to her two daughters-in-law, “Go back, each of you, to your mother’s home, (Ruth 1:8). Even though Naomi could have used the help of her daughters-in-law, she urged them to return to their home and start life over in their own country. Her selfless act encouraged Ruth to follow her example. We pray to be selfless in our daily lives.
1-3 Farm Progress Show, Boone, IA, Jeff Goss - The kingdom was now firmly established in Solomon’s hands, (1Kings2 :46). Three men had internally plotted against King David. On his death bed, he asked Solomon to avenge with their blood. In due time Solomon did just that. We pray to remember a house divided cannot stand. We pray to seek peace in all our dealings.
2-7 Walworth County Fair, Elkhorn, WI, Scott Fisher - And Elisha saw him, Elijah, no more, (2Kings 2:12). Elijah was taken to heaven without dying. Elisha was so sure that he didn’t want anyone to search for Elijah. We pray for faith to believe in miracles.
1-13 Hebron Harvest Fair, Hebron, CT, Bill Brown - And they anointed David king over Israel, as the Lord had promised through Samuel, (1Chronicles 11:3). Twenty years had passed since Samuel had anointed David per God’s command. We pray to believe God’s promises even when His timetable doesn’t match our expectations or desires.
4-7 Spencer Fair, Spencer, MA, Bill Brown - Solomon went up to the bronze alter before the Lord in the Tent of Meeting and offered a thousand burnt offerings on it, (2Chronicles 1:6). Once Solomon was established as the King, he went to God and made an offering. We pray to always put God first in whatever we establish as our kingdoms.
Life Festival, Boonville, NY, Bill Brown - Then Jeshua…began to build the alter of the God of Israel to sacrifice burnt offerings on it, in accordance with what is written in the Law of Moses, the man of God, (Ezra 3:2). Upon returning to Jerusalem, the Jews built the alter as one of their first official acts. It symbolized God’s presence and protection. We pray to build out alter to the one true living God, the maker of heaven and earth.
5-6 Lycoming County Balloon Fest, Hughesville,, PA, Goods - Hear us, oh our God, for we are despised. Turn their insults back on their own heads, (Nehemiah 4:4). The wall around Jerusalem was being rebuilt. Enemies despised and mocked the Jews. They called out to God. We pray to keep our focus on our path for God. We pray to keep our walls fortified with prayer. Please continue to pray for those areas that have had wildfires and the aftermath of starting over.
- On this day the enemies of the Jews had hoped to overpower them, but now the tables were turned and the Jews got the upper hand, (Esther 9:1). Haman had influenced the king to plan the extension of the Jews. Esther had petitioned the king to allow the Jews to defend themselves. We pray to remember our enemies do NOT have the last word!
8-9 Central NY Farm Progress Show, Mohawk, NY, Bill Brown - The mouth of the righteous man utters wisdom, and his tongue speaks what is just, (Psalm 37:30). Pray the Psalms when all else fails. We pray for wisdom to speak justly.
8-13 Navajo Nation Fair, Window Rock, Jeff Goss - The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, and he who wins souls is wise, (Proverbs 11:30). Like a tree attracts people to its shade, our sense of purpose attracts those who want to know how they too can find meaning. We pray to be a model of a meaningful life.
10-13 Orleans County Fair, Barton, VT, Flemings - What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again, (Ecclesiastes 1:9). We often feel restless and dissatisfied. We wonder about all the uncertainty of this life. We pray to remember God is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow. Please pray for those in the high heat areas… pray for lives and crops and farmers in the fields.
- You are a garden fountain, a well of flowering water streaming down from Lebanon, (Song of Songs 4:15). Solomon’s bride was as refreshing to him as a fountain. We pray to refresh each other in love.
Canajoharie Street Fair, Canajoharie, NY, Bill Brown - The mighty man will become tinder and his work a spark, (Isaiah 1:31). A spark set to tinder can quickly become a devouring fi re. We pray to remove any “fire hazards” from our lives.
12-20 Mission Trip to Spruce Pine, NC, Bill Brown - But the Lord said to me, “Do not say, I am only a child.” You must go to everyone I send you to and say whatever I command you, (Jeremiah 1:7). We struggle with new challenges, feeling inadequate. We pray to feel God’s power in our weakness.
13-15 Country Living Farm & Home Show EXPO, Herkimer Fair Grounds, NY, Bill Brown - The roads to Zion mourn, for no one come to her appointed feasts, (Lamentations 1:4). The warning was loud and clear, if Judah played with fi re, its people would get burned. We pray to be obedient to God’s Word.
15-17 Husker Harvest Days, Grand Isle, NJ, Jeff Goss - And whether they listen or fail to listen…… they will know that a prophet has been among them, (Ezekiel 2:5). Ezekiel was called to preach to a stubborn and obstinate people who ignored the truth. We pray we will be faithful to witness even if those we are speaking to don’t accept the truth.
16-20 Vernon County Fair, Viroqua, WI, Scott Fisher - Nebuchadnezzar had dreams, his mind was troubled and he could not sleep, (Daniel 2:1). Daniel honored God and God honored him. We pray to be the spokesperson for God wherever we are.
17-20 Four Town Square, Somers, CT, Bill Brown - Put the trumpet to your lips, (Hosea 8:1). Israel called to God to save them but it was too little too late. We pray to confess and repent…change our ways…as we ask for God’s blessings.
18-20 Antique Working Farm Show, Geneseo, IL, Dennis Schlagel - Summon the elders and all who live in the land to the house of the Lord your God, and cry out to the Lord, (Joel 1:14). A fast was a time when no food was eaten and people approached God with humility and a sorrow for sin. We pray to keep our focus on God as we fast and pray.
Cream Cheese Festival, Lowville, NY, Bill Brown - Seek the Lord and live, (Amos 5:6). There is one sure remedy for a land that is sick and dying in sin…seek the Lord and live. We pray to remember sin seeks to destroy but hope comes from the Lord.
19-20 Walcott Fair, Wolcott, CT, Bill Brown - And the kingdom will be the Lord’s, (Obadiah 21). Nothing can break God’s promise to protect His people complete destruction. We pray to remember God’s people, the nation of Israel, are His chosen people. Please pray for Roy and Kathy and family. Their grandson, Teddy, passed away.
- But Jonah was greatly displeased and became angry, (Jonah 4:1). Jonah thought God should not freely give His salvation to a wicked pagan nation. We pray to remember we all were wicked and pagan before salvation. We pray for salvation for all. Please remember Kathy Brown and her family. Her brother Gary from Texas and her nephew, Tony, from New York passed recently.
- Woe to those who plan iniquity, to those who plot evil on their beds, (Micah 2:1). A person’s thoughts and plans reflect his character. We pray to keep our thoughts pure. Please join with Doug Peterson as he and his community mourn the death of a young man in a farming accident.
- Draw water for the siege, strengthen your defenses, (Nahum 3:14). God is the only power needed. We pray to put our trust in God above all else. We pray our nation will prepare our Spiritual defenses. Please pray for 21 year old Cole as he goes through some tests to find if he has cancer.
- I will stand my watch and station myself on the ramparts, (Habakkuk 2:1). Cities had watchtowers in preparation and expectation. We pray to be ever vigilant and open to God’s message to us.
26-27 Remsen Barn Festival, Remsen, NY, Bill Brown - The great day of the Lord is near…and coming quickly, (Zephaniah 1:14). The Babylonians would soon come and destroy Jerusalem. We pray to understand the great day of the Lord is near to us as well. We confess and repent so that day will be a happy and wonderful time.
26-27 Apple Fest, Central Square, NY, Bill Brown - For I have chosen you, declares the Lord Almighty, (Haggai 2:23). Like the Israelites we often place higher priority on personal comfort that we do spiritual growth. We pray to give God first place in our lives.
26-27 Underhill Market Festival, Underhill, VT, Bill Brown - Therefore, love truth and peace, (Zachariah 8:19). God promised a time when fasting for sins would be replaced by fasting with joy. We pray to prepare our hearts daily with truth and peace. Please pray for venues, large and small to be open for the Gospel message through the Walking Sticks.
- He walked with me in uprightness, and turned many from sin, (Malachi 2:6). Levi was the ancestor of the tribe of Levites, the tribe set aside in service to God. We pray to be a Godly example to those in our sphere of reach. Please pray for Tom as he continues to heal from neck surgery.
- If someone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles, (Matthew 5:41). When we are wronged, often our first reaction is to get even. We pray not to keep score but to love and forgive. Please pray for Scott as he continues to struggle with weakness from liver issues.
