Helping Mitchell Beddingfield: An FCFI Disaster Response Effort in Swannanoa, NC

Mitchell tells about the small river that swelled to 3/4 mile wide, entered his home and did extensive damage & a neighbor that died

Fellowship of Christian Farmers International (FCFI) is actively working to repair the home of Mitchell Beddingfield in Swannanoa, North Carolina, whose property suffered significant damage from the flooding. Samaritan’s Purse has already removed the insulation, damaged drywall, and lower cabinets from his home, making way for the home repair process.

On Oct. 30th Mark Freed, Jason Rinkenberger (son), Payton Wiltz (grandson), took our motor home from Lexington, Illinois to North Carolina. It will provide bunks for a group of Amish men who are going down the 8th and 9th of Nov. to to assist with repairs to Michell’s home, including filling in drywall and replacing the insulation in both the walls and the crawlspace beneath the main floor.

Mitchell’s story has garnered attention beyond his local community. He was recently interviewed by a representative from the Billy Graham Association for Decision Magazine, which is set to include a small section about him in their upcoming December issue. Additionally, other volunteers from the Samaritan’s Purse team are stepping in to provide essential appliances for Mitchell.

Mitchell is also an author.  He has written a book titled Progress: One Pilgrim’s Chronicle of Learning. This work reflects his journey and experiences, and you can find it here.

How You Can Help

While the support for Mitchell is heartwarming, the reality is that many more people are in need. The loss of homes and extensive damage throughout the region is overwhelming, and it’s likely to take years to recover fully. We encourage you to consider donating to help fund these vital repair efforts.

Click on this link to donate… https://www.fcfi.org/give/. You may comment on what specifically you would like your donation to help. I.E. your contributions could go directly towards materials, labor, and supplies needed to restore homes. If you choose to send donations directly for this effort to help Michell or victims of the hurricanes, please indicate it in the comments section when you donate.

Matthew Kent, a CRU (formerly Campus Crusade) missionary from East White Oak Bible Church in Carlock, Illinois, is organizing this effort to fix Michell’s home.

We have had FCFI members such as Steve Miller, already on-site, responding at an improvised camp at Spruce Pine, North Carolina. As of the the 30th of Oct. we have sent our FCFI RV, Kubota side-by-side UTV, and our trailer which has a hoist to the camp. The hoist will be very handy for moving heavy objects such as logs into the trailer. This is a link to an Epoch Times story about the camp: https://www.theepochtimes.com/us/hurricane-relief-camp-in-western-north-carolina-draws-volunteers-from-around-the-country-5744769

Additionally, we are seeking more volunteers to assist with rebuilding efforts and would love to host you in North Carolina in our RV and give you access to chain saws, the side-by-side UTV & trailer to maximize your efforts. Whether you can lend a hand a day or two or longer, your time and skills will make a significant difference in the lives of those affected.
