So Saul disguised himself, putting on other clothes, and at night he and two men went to the woman. “Consult a spirit for me,” he said, “and bring up for me the one I name.” But the woman said to him, “Surely you know what Saul has done. He has cut off the mediums and spiritists from the land. Why have you set a trap for my life to bring about my death?”
In 1 Samuel King Saul and his army were aligned against the Philistines. King Saul had prayed to the Lord for direction. King Saul was very afraid and did not want to go to battle without the Lord telling him to do so. He was not hearing anything from the Lord on what to do. King Saul had commanded that all mediums and fortune tellers were to leave the land. Not hearing from the Lord, King Saul breaks his own law and goes to a medium for advice. We often place ourselves in position where we really need direction from the Lord. And it just does not seem to come. We want to act and do something, anything. But, the Lord has not directed us. Sometimes the Lord may be waiting to see if we will have patience. Will we wait on the Lord or will we push our way? Or the Lord is arranging something else that must first occur. Pushing forward with our own decisions will only cause us more problems. We cannot be like King Saul and take actions when the Lord has not directed us. Wait, feel the peace of the Lord. His direction will come in your life. Pushing what we feel might be right may be going completely against what the Lord has for us.
Lord, I can be impatient at times. I want to abide by Your Word and serve You to the best of my ability. But sometimes when I do not know what You want me to do, I act on my own. I realize my own actions may cause problems You must now address. Help me to always have patience and to wait on You. You know what is best and You have a plan that I cannot see. I am Yours! In Jesus name, Amen!!
