PRAYER GUIDE - September 2011
- This is the last day of the Farm Progress Show. Redeemer, draw people to the FCF booth that didn’t want to take the time the last two days. Let this be “clean up” day when many doubters shed their doubts and decide to make you, Jesus, their Savior and Lord.
- September is back to school month for kids of all ages. And let us not forget the teachers and others involved in their education. Father in Heaven, the future leaders of the world need your input so they can lead wisely and humbly. Move in our schools and classrooms, Father, and restore our nation to its God ordained past.
- September is also the month when the bulk of our harvest begins. Lord of the Harvest, keep our men and women safe as they gather in your bounty. May their yields be generous, the prices fair, and adequate, and all market needs be filled. We pray this in the name of Jesus.
- Do you realize that summer officially ends in the Northern Hemisphere in just over two weeks? Where did the time go? Where did you go? Is your “to do” list complete? Savior, I am sure there are many things we did that we shouldn’t have done and things we should have done and didn’t. Forgive us our failures and short comings and renew our desire to do those things that are on your “to do” list, even if our own list is incomplete.
- Today is Labor Day in the U.S. It’s much more than the end of summer vacation for school kids and their teachers. This day is dedicated to the achievements of American workers which are many, varied, and outstanding. Carpenter, you began your adult life as a worker, an example for us all. May we continue to grow in productivity, creativity, and responsibility to our employees, our families, and to you, our Creator God.
- “As He (Jesus) was dining in Levi’s house … many tax collectors and sinners also sat together with Jesus”, Mark 2:15. How many tax collectors and sinners have you entertained lately? I take that back since we are all sinners. How many from a vastly different culture have you had in your home recently? As for myself, none. I guess we better get busy. Jesus didn’t do it for show; He really cared about his guests. Lord, help us to do likewise!
- 07 - “You seek me not because you saw signs and wonders but because you ate the loaves and were filled”, John 6:26. How many of us follow Jesus because of what He can do for us materially? I am afraid many of us are like the “bread eaters”. Chief Priest, again we have fallen short. Thank you for your provision but we thank you much more for removing the stain of sin from us and welcoming us into eternal life.
- “So the Lord said to him (Moses), ‘What is that in your hand?’ Exodus 4:2. We often think we have to have some special gifts or unusual situations to serve our God. But as He tells Moses, we can do just fine using the common everyday gifts and circumstances in our hand now. Prophet, open our eyes to see the opportunities that exist daily to serve you.
- “You, Lord, have made me glad … I will triumph in the work of your hands”, Psalms 92:4. Does God have hands? Since we are made in God’s image, I think He does. But, can you look back on your life and see God’s hand at work without your knowing it? Praise God. We can all say, “There but for the grace of God, go I”!
- Many potential candidates have “thrown their hats into the ring” to seek the presidency of the U.S. King of Kings, we’re thankful that these many men and women have the vision to lead this once great nation out of the “doldrums” we now find ourselves in. Be the guiding light for each of them and promote the one that best meets the standards that you have set before them and before the nation, the United States of America.
- Patriot Day - this day marks the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on the Twin Towers in New York City, the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., and the failed attempt on the White House on September 11, 2001. It was the worst terrorist attack on the U.S. in its history. This event should not be confused with Patriot’s Day which honors early battles of the Revolutionary War in 1775. Father, minister to those still grieving loved ones because of these attacks and bring your justice on the perpetrators of this heinous crime.
- C.B. is losing his battle with cancer and appears to only have a short time left on this earth. L.S. has just begun chemotherapy treatments for breast cancer. C.R. recently had knee surgery and D.H. is experiencing a recurrence of colon cancer. Most gracious Lord, these folks and their families need the reassurance that only you can supply. Let your peace, which passes all understanding, fill their hearts and homes as they pass through this difficult time.
- Husker Harvest Days begins today in Grand Island, Nebraska. I can’t find any islands in Nebraska but, our Wonderful Counselor can and will. Send needy souls to the FCF tent, Counselor, and open their hearts to “the greatest story ever told”. Add many names to the “Lambs Book of Life”.
- Is the weather too hot or too cold, too wet or too dry for you? Have you been flooded out or burned up? Are you struggling with personal or family issues? You are not alone. This may be a time of “faith testing”. Remember, “… and my God will meet all your needs according to His glorious riches in Christ Jesus”, Philippians 4:19. And, if you are blessed with an abundance, you may be the one God wants to use to meet the needs of someone less fortunate. Lord, be my guide in any circumstance.
- G.C. is praising God because he has been given a clean bill of health. Do you have a praise report? Have you thanked our Heavenly Father for answered prayer or answers to prayer you never sent heavenward or that someone else prayed on your behalf? “I will praise you, O Lord, with all my heart. I will tell of your wonders. I will be glad and rejoice in you. I will sing praise to your name O Most High”, Psalm 9:12. Thank you for hearing me, Lord God.
- Matthew 24:6 speaks of “wars and rumors of war” and surely we live in that time today. We in the USA have troops scattered all around the world and are actively fighting in three separate wars. Prince of Peace, our hearts long for a time of peace when men and women of every description can live together in harmony. Yet, “Our adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour”, 1 Peter 5:8. Be a shield that protects our troops from harm and bring lasting peace to this troubled world.
- Constitution Day - this day commemorates the formation and signing of the American Constitution on September 17, 1778, the longest lasting constitution of any nation in the world. Bright Morning Star, thank you for inspiring the thirty-nine brave men who signed the Constitution into being. We pray that today’s leaders recognize and implement the Constitution as it was originally intended.
- Are you a “Friend of the Fellowship”? FCF is promoting “Friends of the Fellowship” to develop a steady source of income to meet the ongoing needs of the organization. Pledging support in any amount each month, quarterly, semi-annually, or yearly will help us to meet our regular obligations such a payroll, rent, utilities, postage, phone bills (local operational expenses) so that when a “rapid action” response, a mission need, or the like appears, FCFI will be ready financially to meet it “head on”. Jesus, we seek your blessing on this important outreach.
- There are a slew of fairs, farm shows, and expos in September in Canada and the U.S. (28 in all) and FCF will be at many of them. Jesus, you are the way, the truth, and the life. With your help our FCF volunteers will find a way to distribute that truth making it possible for so many people to find their way to eternal life.
- Did you know that God has some work for you to do? I don’t think that it matters whether you are 8 or 80 years old. Listen to this! “For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works which God prepared in advance for us to do”. Ephesians 2:10. Head of the Church, we are ready for our “marching orders”. Be our Director and our Guide.
- “Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it.” Proverbs 22:6. Our children are a gift from God, on loan from heaven above, to train and nourish in the Lord and guide them with His love. With your help, Savior, we will do just that.
- I am reading The Complete History of WW II which was written in 1946 just after the war was ended. What a story of hate, death, destruction, pillage, deception, depravation, and carnage. We in the Western Hemisphere have little understanding of what so many people went through. Tens of millions died as a result of this conflict. Prince of Peace, how could such a thing happen and how can we avoid a repeat performance? Help us to keep our focus on your will not the will of man.
- “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path”, Psalm 119:105. Have you ever walked along a path in darkness with only a flashlight to keep you on it? You can’t see very far ahead but you can stay on the path and avoid tree limbs, boulders, and deep puddles. That is how God’s Word is. It keeps us on the path and we won’t stumble over potential obstacles. Thank you, Author of Our Faith for your Word. It truly is a “lamp to my feet and a light to my path”.
- “You are an epistle of Christ”, 2 Corinthians 3:3. Most of us will never write a book or deliver a speech like the Gettysburg Address. But, Paul tells us that we are an epistle (letter or composition) of Christ as we live out our lives. What kind of an “epistle” are you? Living Word, I want to be an epistle that reflects the personhood of Christ. Lead, guide, and direct me to be all that you have planned for me to be.
- “Therefore, let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall”, I Corinthians 10:12. Moral failures among the prominent people of our time seem to be the norm rather than the exception. A common comment about such an action is “how could he (she) do such a thing(s)?” But, Paul warns us here that we, too, could fall into the same temptations. Light of the World, we are a sinful people subject to many temptations. By ourselves we can do little but, “I can do anything through Him who gives me strength.” Philippians 4:13.
- “If you show partiality, you commit sin.” James 2:9. I think that this means we all sin for how can we avoid partiality? This little poem tells us how we can do that. “Forgive me, Lord, for prejudice. Remove its subtle lie. Oh, fill my heart with your great love that sent your Son to die”.
- “While Paul waited for them at Athens, his spirit was provoked … when he saw that the city was given over to idols.” Acts 17:16. I am afraid that Paul’s spirit would be provoked at the idols we worship today. Money, fame, personalities, sex are but a few of today’s idols. And, I believe that it is often pride that encourages us “to pick our own idol”. Heavenly Judge, we are a fickle people with short memories. Transform us into the people you desire us to be.
- “You have heard it said ’You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy’ but I say … love your enemies”, Matthew 6:43, 44. That is a nice thing to say but how do you “love your enemy”? Here is one idea - tell him about Jesus and what He has done for you. Bread of Life, loving enemies is downright hard to do. We need you instruction and support.
- “Suddenly there was an earthquake so that the foundations of the prison were shaken.” Acts 16:26. You know the story. Paul and Silas bound and in jail, were freed by the earthquake but didn’t escape. By not taking the opportunity to escape from jail they were able to witness to the jailor who later was saved. Lion of Judah, we aren’t necessarily asking for an earth- quake to be your witness but help us to use whatever circumstances we are in to be your witnesses.
- “Narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life and there are few who find it.” Matthew 7:14. Doesn’t Jesus know that this is not “politically correct”? Much of the world, and unfortunately many churches, ascribe to the “politically correct” notion that a loving God would not condemn anyone but, John 3:17,18 says, “For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world … whoever believes in Him is not condemned but whoever does not believe is condemned already”. We pray, Lord Jesus, for the determination to pass this truth on to needy souls.
- “Repent so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord.” Acts 3:19. Lord, I need my spirit refreshed and renewed today. Speak to me through your Word that I might hear your heart and help to share my heart with You in prayer.
